Om si Societate

About the project

The Ministry of Education, Research, Youth and Sports, through the Management Unit of External Financed Projects (MECTS-UMPFE)[1], started in December 2nd, 2010, the project named “The teacher – a professional within the education system”, co-financed from the European Social Fund (ESF)[2], in the Sectorial Operational Program Human Resources Development (SOP HRD)[3], Priority Axis 1 – “Education and training in support for economic growth and development of the society based on knowledge”, Key area of intervention 1.3 – “Human Resources Development in Education and Training”.

The project benefits from a non-refundable financing worth RON 13,926,074.97 representing 79% of the total value of the eligible costs and will be implemented over a period of 36 months, in partnership with SC Siveco Romania SA, The Center for Development and Innovation in Education - TEHNE and SC Millenium Design Group SRL.

The project aims to improve the quality in the high school education, by developing the competences necessary to the high performance teachers, pursuing permanent improvement and continuous training of the teachers, majoring in the curriculum “Man and Society”.

Intended Audience

The target group of the project is represented by 5,000 teachers who have not yet achieved tenure and/or the educational degrees.

Specifically, in the current economic context, we wish to meet the limited material possibilities of the teachers, providing them support in the continuous training process for the preparation of the tenure and/or educational degrees exams. How? Proposing to overcome the traditional forms of improving, which may seem outdated nowadays, by developing and implementing a training program that is modern, adapted to the current training needs, but also permanent innovations in pedagogy.

What are the main objectives of the project?

- professional development and, implicit, career opportunities for 5,000 teachers in the country;

- guidance of the teachers’ attention primarily on the development needs of the students and on the rephrasing the educational offer;

- the correct application of the current concepts of the modern education and the organization of teaching-learning activities from their perspective;

- structuring the skills and competencies of the teachers, in order to generate amongst students the development of the capacities to learn, to teach how to learn, and also social integration, including increasing the chances of finding a job.

The program also includes one of the essential objective of sustainable development – people better prepared to face current and future challenges and to act responsibly towards future generations.

What are the main benefits of the project?

The project aims to emphasize the way to use the means of information technology (ICT)[4] by the teachers in the teaching-learning process. Even if we expect that the use of the ICT technology in the Romanian Educational Environment will not be a problem, the reality often claims the opposite. For this reason, we hope that with the incorporation of ICT in the training program for teachers, will be possible:

- permanent updating of the specialized information and address shortcomings resulting from insufficient initial training;

- preparing lessons in a high quality manner, both scientifically and methodologically;

- optimum management of the limited time available to meet the current educational needs of the students.

 Within the implementation process, the priorities will be:

-  developing accredited continuous training program;

- developing and implementing software applications designed to improve teacher education (collaboration portal “Man and Society”);

- implementing the continuous training program (through the training team);

- certification of the teachers (with 25 transferable professional credits) at the end of the training program.
