1.  Portal Access


The portal Man and Society “The teacher – a professional in the Education System” is accessible at the address:


Accessing the portal is made by opening a web page browser (e.g. Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome) and entering on top of the page, where the red arrow indicates, the web address mentioned.

After loading the page, we can see 5 important areas within the page and in the image above.

-       1 – the toolbar for inserting the desired web page address

-       2 – the header and the main menu of the portal

-       3 – the left menu

-       4 – the right menu

-       5 – the content of the portal

-       6 – the footer of the portal.

Next we analyze each of the 5 areas presented.


2.  The main menu


In this chapter we will describe the top of the portal “The teacher – a professional in the Education System”, consisting in the header of the portal and the main menu, with the corresponding submenus.


Ø  Header


The image in the Header was created in accordance with the MASOPHRD[1] Visual Identity Manual. The Signature was made in the order and configuration set in the manual.


This area contains a link to the first page of the portal, and it can be accessed from any page of the portal. It is a direct and quick jump to the homepage of the site.


Ø  Home


It is considered the first page of the portal, having the same role of quick jump as the links in the header area, presented above. Also, is the page accessed when loading the portal by accessing the link

Because it has not been created a separate page for this section, it will be displayed the content of the page “About the Project”.

Here also appear the documents selected to appear on the home page and the documents most recently inserted or modified.


Ø  About the Project


This section contains the general information about the project. By actuating the submenu, the content area of the portal will be opened, a new page containing the detailed description of the project behind the portal.



Ø  News


This section contains the news entered at portal level. By actuating the submenu, the content area of the portal is opened, a new page containing a maximum of 10 such links to such documents.  Are displayed the title, a part of the description and a link to the whole document “Read more”. This behavior also occurs when clicking on the title of the document type news that is intended to be viewed.



The latest news appears also in the right side of the portal, as it can be seen in the image above.

Ø  Photo Gallery


With the help of this section you can view the images added previously in the portal. To display the images in a larger format, it is edited each image by clicking directly on it.


            The title of the image appears on crossing the mouse over it, and also in editing. The description attached to the image appears also in editing, as it can be seen in the following image.

            Also in the following image it can be noticed that this menu gives the possibility of browsing the entire gallery (the link “Next”). It is displayed the position occupied by the image within the Gallery (of the total number images included) and a link back to the main page of the photo gallery.


Ø  Multimedia


The multimedia menu contains files type video and/or audio that can be downloaded by clicking on the title of the file.



Ø  Training courses


This section of the portal merges the information on the courses certified by NCTA[2] existing and available within the developing regions.  

The main page that opens when actuating the menu, contains links to all the courses available in the portal.

      When accessing a course in the page displayed, a new page opens containing another link in order to view the course in html format.

      The course opened contains the lessons necessary for it, their number varying from one course to another. Note that each course opens in a new file created in the browser.


Ø  Forum


The Forum was created to offer a space destined for discussions about the project and its purpose. When selecting the menu all the available forums and the sub-forums related to each of them are displayed.

The Forum was divided into sections, and each section has been configured to display the number of topics, articles and date of the last modification date..


Ø  Contact


In the Contact area are found all the contact data for all the participants in the project and it gives the possibility of sending messages through a form.

The fields Name, e-mail, Subject and Message are mandatory. After filling in the data, by clicking the save button, the data are sent to the beneficiary, and the user will receive a response to the form as soon as possible.


3.  Left menu


The section on the left side of the portal is formed of multiple menus detailed below. For the authenticated users, in this section there are some additional menus..


Ø  Log in / Log out


By clicking the log in button and filling in the information requested for logging into the portal, in the place of the firs menu the Log out menu will appear..


In the authentication page opened there are three options: Create new account, Log in, Request a new password.

The registration in the portal is made by selecting the option create new account.

After authentication, the block is replaced with that containing the details about the account with which the connection to the portal was made.

            If you forgot your password for the account previously created and you wish to recover it, select the option to request a new password. You will be asked to fill in the e-mail address where to receive a new password.

            You can use the password received by e-mail at the first authentication after the request to reset it, you will have to modify it.

After authentication, in the section My account, the data of your account can be modified.


Ø  About the Project


The actuation of this menu creates the same effect as the menu with the same name in the main menu.

For an easier and more intuitive method of navigation, we implemented in the right side of the portal a navigation part within the section About the Project, structuring thereby the available information.


Ø  Calendar


      This section contains the public events related with the proper conduct of this program. The events appear as links to the calendar, and by clicking on them is displayed the content of the event.

      For the authenticated users, the calendar contains both public and private events, introduced by the user.

            The left column contains information about the most visited pages in the portal, blog entries, an access section for the RSS feeds and, for the authenticated users, a section for the members connected in the portal when accessing the portal. 


Ø  Press releases


The section for Press releases is also present in the right column of the portal and contains links to all the press releases published on the site, every link displaying, by click, the whole content of the bulletin, including any attachments.


Ø  Resources


The user has a page with the resources of the collaboration Portal “Man and Society”. The Resources page gives the user access to a series of work materials and instruments that can be used by the users in their tasks. 



Was developed the section Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) to respond to certain common questions often asked by the visitors of the portal Man and Society, concerning the theme of the project “The teacher – a professional in the Education System”.

Ø  Links


Also in the right column of the Portal there is the menu of links to sites of general interest (Ministry of Labor, European Commission Representation in Romania of the European Social Fund).



Ø  My agenda


The accessing of the menu can be made only after a prior authentication. The page opened is similar to the one in the Calendar menu, except that here are displayed all the events of the authenticated user and the courses introduces and published by the user.  


Ø  My resources


This menu is also accessible only to the authenticated users that have visualization rights of the category. The page opened contains all the resources published by the user.


Ø  Community


The Community Menu is dedicated to the members existing at portal level. When accessing it, it opens a page containing a link Members that when is clicked on, there are displayed all the users that have an account created in the site, alphabetized.

      For each user are displayed information about the completion of the courses with or without a diploma, the discipline followed by the trainee, the institution where he/she is working, city and county of residence.



4.   The right menu


The section in the right part of the portal is composed of several blocks described more detailed below. These are: the search block, top accessed pages, blog entries and their subjects and the RSS feed.


Ø  The search block


The search within the portal is made by introducing one or more words, either complete or partial, and then by clicking on the magnifier on the right side of the block. 

If nothing is entered in the search field before clicking the magnifier, the user is warned.

            There is the possibility of advanced search within the portal, by selecting one or more categories of content.

Ø  Top pages


The section for most accessed pages is also found in the right side of the portal. Here are present parts of the news title most accessed by the visitors, either authenticated or not. Are displayed up to 5 titles of documents, for each one appearing the link to the whole document and its date of publication.


Ø  Blog


The portal gives the opportunity to make blogs, but only by the authenticated users that have the necessary rights for the adding.


            By clicking on the links in this block on the right side, in the content part there is a new page with the title of the blog, author and date of its creation, and the body of the blog. It is noted that is necessary a prior authentication to edit the chosen subject.


Ø  RSS feed


The RSS feed section is also added in the portal and gives the opportunity of subscription for all users.

By clicking the button in the previous image, a new page opens with all the topics that make the subject of the RSS feed, added into the portal. Also here is chosen the feed type that you want to subscribe.



5.  Content of the portal


The content part is displayed in the center of the portal. Each accessed menu modifies this area by displaying the corresponding page.

The block for content has a fixed width and a variable height, and can also be run using the scroll bar.




6.  The footer of the portal


This section of the portal consists of the User Account menu, useful for those that wish to authenticate or to register at portal level, together will the general information, and also with the Help and Contact menu. Also here we can find information specific to the portal, structured in the Wikitool menu and in the Surveys menu, and a map of the site.


Ø  Help


The menu called Help opens a page created by the administrator containing useful information for the visitors about how to use the portal.


Ø  Website map


Also in the footer of the portal is the link to its map, consisting in the associated blocks and menus.

The structuring of the menus as a list offers a better view of the categories found in the portal. For the users on the first visits to the site, the map is a useful and quick guide.



Ø  User account


The menu for the authentication of the user is present both in the left block and in the footer of the pate. For the unauthenticated users, accessing the menu opens the log in page. For the authenticated users, the opened page is that to view or modify profile.

Ø  Wikitool


            This area includes also the definitions instrument at portal level. Here is introduced information useful to all users of the portal about the terms found in the existing content pages. The users with the right to add and modify, and that are authenticated, manage the topics here.  

The users authenticated with administrator’s account may update the information and insert comments at the existing content. Also, they can follow the updates.

Ø  Surveys


The Surveys category was added to collect statistics on the portal content. 

            The users can express their opinions on the surveys created by the administrators of the portal, but can also see the results and percentage of the votes at a certain moment of time.


Ø  Contact


The Contact form is accessible both from the main menu of the portal, and from the footer area. Given that a part of the portals have this menu at the top of the page, and other at the bottom, for this portal we chose to incorporate it in both places, thus improving the organization.
